Okapi  (Okapia johnstoni)

  • lives in Ituri Forests in Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • didn’t know this species existed until 1901
  • only living relative of the giraffe
  • long black tongue is long enough to reach their own eyes and ears
  • camouflage markings make them look like a zebra
  • endangered species
